DISKRIMINIERUNG, FLÜCHTLINGE & MIGRANTEN   

Menschen werden oft in eine Schublade gesteckt   = the philosopher was pegged/pigeonholed by the media as a right-wing extremist; it is unfair to tar the whole family with the same brush just because the father was a petty criminal/thief; one tends to characterize/stereotype people according to certain habits, such as that all male Russians drink too much vodka

viele Arbeitsverträge von Frauen sind minderwertiger als die der Männer = gender inequality still seems to be rife in the nation’s workforce; the gender pay gap/disparity is narrowing at a glacial pace; in many industries women still sit in the lower earnings bracket than men 

Ärztinnen in Krankenhäusern werden heutzutage kaum noch diskriminiert   = female doctors in hospitals/in medicine nowadays barely face discrimination and bias  

in vielen Ländern sind Frauen in manchen Berufen nicht nur unterrepräsentiert sondern auch schlechter bezahlt = in many countries women are still underrepresented in the labor order in addition to a gender pay gap

in vielen Unternehmen wird Wert auf Inklusion gelegt = the industry is becoming more inclusive as people with disabilities get more chances to have good jobs; some companies practice what is called “deliberate inclusiveness”

in manchen Ländern werden illegale Flüchtlinge/Immigranten abgeschoben oder in Internierungslager gesteckt = in some countries illegal refugees/immigrants are subejct to deportation or put into internment camps

unerwünschte Migration könnte die Grundfesten eines Landes/einer Gesellschaft erschüttern/bröckeln = unwanted immigration may shake/crack/fray the social fabric/bedrock/foundations of a country`s society; the nation’s fabric/DNA could come apart in the wake of a massive influx of refugees/immigrants; social cohesion could be in danger if uncontrolled immigration continues at the current pace

wegen Fachkräftemangel werden qualifizierte Migranten aus dem Ausland in unserem Land derzeit dringend gebraucht =   qualified migrants are urgently needed as our country presently faces an acute/a critical skills deficit/shortage 

Enttäuschung bei der Bevölkerung wegen unkontrollierter Einwanderung sowie stagnierender Wirtschaft hat einige Populisten in den letzten Jahren in den USA, Europa und Großbritannien hervorgebracht = long-building public frustration at stagnant incomes and uncontrolled immigration exploded into convulsive populism in the last few years in the US, Europe and Great Britain

Flüchtlinge werden manchmal von Einwohnern ausgeschlossen = refugees are treated sometimes as outcasts/pariahs; immigrants from certain countries face social exclusion

Flüchtlinge fühlen sich manchmal ausgegrenzt = immigrants sometimes feel marginalized/ostracized/boycotted by the local population

Migranten werden wegen Rassismus und Religion angefeindet = migrants/refugees/immigrants/foreigners are sometimes the target of discrimination, vilification and harassment on both religious and racial grounds 

Politiker aller Couleur setzen sich für bessere Rassenintegration ein =   politicians/ lawmakers of all persuasions set their sights on/focus on better racial integration 

allerdings wird Integration nicht gefördert wenn man die deutsche  Staatsbürgerschaft verramscht = however, staging a “clearance sale”/fast- tracking German citizenship “for a bargain basement price/cheaper-by-the-dozen/a dime a dozen (i.e. easily obtained)” is not  conducive to integration 

Schwarze in den USA werden von fanatischen Weißen noch immer diskriminiert = in the United States obsolete white supremacists still harbor racial prejudice toward African-Americans/other races

angesehener Geschäftsmann wird aufgrund rassistischer Äußerungen verklagt = a leading businessman who recently made racially laced remarks on foreign-looking persons has been charged with/accused of verbal abuse/disparaging remarks;  the abuse was improper/out of line   

“Cancel Culture" zielt darauf ab, bestimmte Personen – häufig Prominenten – infolge von vermeintlichem Fehlverhalten, beleidigenden oder diskriminierenden Aussagen oder Handlungen zu boykottieren oder zu ächten = cancel culture is the process of boycotting/ shunning certain individuals – mostly celebs - who are deemed to have acted or spoken in an unacceptable/discriminating manner 

einer Person mit rassistischen Tendenzen sollte die Mitgliedschaft in einem  Verein verweigert werden = individuals who display notorious racist attitudes should be blackballed by most other club members when seeking membership; there are plenty of racist louts in the town where I live 

in einem Interview ist die rassistische Äußerung des Fußballers nicht zu überhören = interview by football player has a racial overtone/ slur connotation; football player's comments were a breach against our team’s commitment to upholding a high standard of conduct on and off the field

Fußballer bekommt Geldstrafe wegen rassistischer Entgleisung/Äußerung = football player gets cited/fined for casting alleged racial slur/ trope/taunt/aspersions

Sprüche im Internet durch Fanatiker schüren Hass gegen Minderheiten = right-wing fanatics embark on a racist hatefest;  race-baiting stokes/stirs up xenophobic sentiment in the Internet/works up a hate/hatred against minority groups

man sollte sich nicht von Angst blenden oder Hass anstecken lassen = do not let fear blind us or hate infect us

Aborigenes in Australien werden nach wie vor diskriminiert = Australia’s indigenous people/aborigenes/"First Peoples" (new term) have been discriminated since the continent’s discovery by/arrival of Europeans 

Regierung muss den Problemen der Genderdiskriminierung/Rassenintegration beikommen = the administration needs to tackle/solve/ deal with the vexing issue of gender discrimination/racial integration; Is it wise nowadays to navigate or to avoid gendered language/ gender terminology?

Minderheiten/Sozialschwache sollten verstärkt am gesellschaftlichen Geschehen teilnehmen = further indigenous participation is called for in order to enhance racial diversity, otherwise inequalities solidify

Homosexuelle werden weiter von Rechtsradikalen sowie von religiösen Fanatikern  diskriminiert = right-wing extremists continue villifying gays as religious fanatics/nutters have done it for years; some people peddle extreme anti religion/anti homosexuality/anti semitism 

wenn eine Mehrheit von einer Minderheit diskriminiert wird = discrimination against a majority is called reverse or positive racism

reiche Leute scheinen im Großen und Ganzen besser mit Rassismus zurechtzukommen = wealthy individuals seem capable of cocooning themselves much better from the racism experienced by others stuck in the same predicament/ordeal

er scheint etwas befangen zu sein = he appears to have/develop a jaundiced view/eye toward racial issues

alle Menschen sollen gerecht behandeln werden = Give everybody a fair go! (AUS)
