Fangemeinde fiebert dem Spiel entgegen; die Vorfreude ist nicht zu überhören  = the fan groups are champing/chomping at the bit/raring/ busting to go to the soccer stadium to watch the game tonight; die-hard/hardcore fans are excited/pumped; happy supporters/fans clap around the bleachers and in their seats; crowd is amped up/buzzing with nervous/edgy anticipation; excitement is building ahead of the grand final 

als die Spieler der Heimmannschaft das Feld betreten, werden sie frenetisch gefeiert  =  the home-team was given a rousing reception upon entering/taking the field

die Stadt befindet sich im Rausch der Weltmeistersschaft = the city is in the grip of the world championship fever; the city is buzzing with pre-game excitement; the hype surrounding the big-time/jumbo-sized event shows no sign of abating; national-team-mania is everywhere 

beim Anhang ist die Vorfreude auf das Endspiel sehr groß =  fans/supporters live up to the hoopla in anticipation of the final game

Zuschauer/Anhänger/Fans feiern die Mannschaft/sind aus dem Häuschen/sind auf Wolke sieben = even before kick-off local fans were buzzing with a sense of expectation/anticipation; tonight the squad drove a rare sell-out crowd bonkers; roars of encouragement for the home team were heard all over the stadium; it was a tension-filled race that gave the crowd a real buzz/made the crowd go wild/nuts; team thrills/mesmerizes/enraptures/enthralls/sweeps away crowd/fans; crowd roared in disbelief; team’s show has the spectators go into party mode; the oldies are still raving/drooling over the championship squad; flamboyant team takes city by storm; shrieks of delight were heard from the raucous crowd; the fans came to life; the squad/side delighted the crowd with flashy moves; team was boosted by cheering fans

Fans rasten aus/schweben im siebten Himmel  = with his dazzling passes the superstar whipped up the spectators into a frenzy; excitement among the crowd was at/reached fever pitch; the crowd revved up/exploded/went wild/beserk when the team scored a goal; the team’s performance had the crowd grinding with ecstasy/sitting back in awe; the crowd/fans screamed/howled in delight with the magnificent goal; with a spectacular move player elicits gasps from the crowd   

Wow! Tor löst emotionale Explosion aus = football-starved fans just stepped back and marvelled at player’s great performance; crowd treats/cheers on player with thunderous applause/to an extended standing ovation; the goal got the crowd on its feet 

das war ein Jubelschrei aus tausenden Kehlen = goal sent the fans into hysterics

bei den Fans/Anhängern auf den Rängen ist der Teufel los  = supporters/fans in the stands cheer their lungs out/scream themselves silly/ like crazy

was gesagt wird, wenn man eine Mannschaft in den USA und in Australien anfeuert = if you support a team in the US you “root for” (in AUS “to root” is taboo slang) or you ”pull for” it; in AUS you “barrack” for a team 

Auf geht’s! Weiter so! = Way to go! Looking good! Keep on trucking! Attaboy! Attagirl! (encouragement chants by fans/spectators)

Spieler animiert Zuschauer, mitzumachen = player throws his arms in the air begging for a little help and noise; player exhorts/implores crowd to get loud/to standing ovation for team; player loves to ham it up with the spectators; player stretches his arms wide to connect with the fans/crowd

Fans werden lauter = crowd is no longer quiet as shouts pierce the silence in the arena/stadium; applause first rippled, then resounded through/across the arena/stadium

mit den Fingern an seinen Lippen fordert Spieler die Zuschauer auf, still zu bleiben = player puts his fingers to his lips in the universal “shush” sound to the crowd: Be quiet!

als das Spiel abgepfiffen wird, ist die Ekstase kollektiv und grenzenlos = fans were/got over the moon/carried away/walking on air/went overboard when the final whistle sounded; the crowd erupted in cheers when the game was over; a wave of euphoria washed over the stadium when the final whistle was heard; the winning team players leaped for joy when the final whistle blew; after the game ended the superstar basked in the ovation from the home crowd; in the aftermath of his great performance player was passing out high-fives to team fans;  the standing ovation gave some players chills;  with his last-second goal/basket player was tackled to the ground/floor by his celebrating teammates as the crowd erupted

Spieler bekommt viel Beifall/Standing Ovations = player received a standing ovation (singular in English) from the crowd; the fans gave player a roaring ovation as he cupped his hand to his ear

im Heimstadion herrscht beste Stimmung = the home ground is always the right venue to create an exciting and intimidating vibe/ atmosphere/buzz/hype; there is always a cool vibe in the arena

wir fühlen uns wohl, wenn wir dort spielen = team loves to play over there because of the good atmosphere/vibe/feel/buzz in the city and the big/large crowds

die Fans tun alles, um ihre Mannschaft anzufeuern  = crowd tries to will team back into the game; side needs some cheering up; fans rally the troops; team was roared on by crowd

der Gegner wird ständig ausgebuht/angefeindet = local fans let the rival team have it at every opportunity; visiting squad has to face hostile conditions/adverse environment in an extremely raucous atmosphere/stadium/arena; supporters from these two opposing teams strongly dislike each other; local fans bear/hold/harbor personal grudges/biases against certain players; local fans were chanting “beat the (name opponent)” all the time; player gets taunted/heckled/sledged (AUS) by spectator/fan 

Sollen Zuschauer einen umstrittenen Spieler ausbuhen oder freundlich behandeln? = Should the crowd boo a controversial player or woo him with kindness?

Spieler haben ein leidenschaftliches Verhältnis/gehen auf Tuchfühlung zu ihren Fans = some players have a kind of love-affair/forge close bonds with their fans

die konstant schlechten Leistungen der Mannschaft vergrämen sogar die treuesten Anhänger = dismal effort/performance by team guts/ disappoints even die-hard/never-say-die supporters; the defeat was a bitter pill for all die-hard (name club) fans; many fans seem no longer willing to follow along with the club’s ghastly performances/showings 

schwache Leistung wird hämisch quittiert  = the team’s sloppy performance/showing raised a derisive cheer from the crowd; boos came pouring down from the stands; poor performance brings out boos from fans; when the going gets tough they (i.e. some fair-weather/front runner supporters/fans) go to bed (i.e. go home before game ends)

Fans stöhnen bei gegnerischem Treffer; es wird ruhig   im Stadium/in der Arena  = the opponent’s goal sent a loud groan through the stadium as the frenzied crowd sighed in agony; silence befell the stadium/the arena fell silent 

unzufriedene/enttäuschte Fans verlassen das Stadion vor Spielende  = disappointed/stunned crowd filed/headed for the exits/headed out before the game ended; crowd hit the exits

nicht einmal der Lokalmatador wird gefeiert  = so much for cutting the local kid some slack

in den Fußballstadien sitzen die gegnerischen Fans in einem getrennten Block = in the US fans/supporters are accommodated in the so-called road rooting (remember not to use this word in AUS, it’s vulgar) section 

Ultras verhalten sich extrem fanatisch = one-sided spectators/fans are sometimes blindly parochial   

Spieler wird von Zuschauern rassistisch beleidigt = biased spectators hurl racist/offensive slurs at player; fan who directed racial abuse at colored star faces possible life ban from stadium/arena

seine rassistischen Kommentare sind überhaupt nicht gut angekommen = his racist remarks went down like a lead baloon/didn’t go over well/didn’t resonate with the fans at all

Spieler benimmt sich daneben = player was accused of directing/making an obscene gesture/inappropriate comment toward a fan/to the crowd; player was levied a fine for directing inappropriate language toward fans; player’s bad/unhinged stunt/behavior didn’t sit/land well with the fans; sometimes player’s antics don’t wash with fans 

heute Abend gibt es “Public Viewing” bei Live-Übertragung im Park = tonight you can watch the game live on a big screen in the park/ club/ pub/hotel

wegen Pandemie finden nur noch Geisterspiele statt (ohne Zuschauer) = league games will take place without fans/spectators/behind close doors; it’s a morgue-like/ghost-town atmosphere in the empty stadiums right now; during pandemic lockdowns games are played in front of cardboard cutouts as no real spectators allowed

im leeren Stadion war eine eingespielte Geräuschkulisse zu hören = you could hear the piped-in crowd noise in the empty arena 

es werden weniger Tickets verkauft, Preise gehen runter = ticket sales take a hit; due to poor turnouts the footbal federation slashes ticket prices

das Interesse der Fans für Fußball scheint allmählich zu schwinden = spectators are kind of losing interest for football and are starting to drift away from the stadiums
