seit Jahren diktiert der FC Bayern das Fußballgeschehen in der Bundesliga = the FC Bayern has been riding roughshod over other Bundesdliga teams through the last years; as usual Bayern rips up/tears up the league again 

reiche Vereine können immer die besten Spieler verpflichten =  rich clubs can always cherry-pick the best players available 

kleine Mannschaften können nicht mit den großen Vereinen mithalten und spielen oft gegen den Abstieg = the minnows/the have-not teams/the downtrodden franchises/plain-vanilla teams can’t keep up with the big boys and usually battle relegation   

für unsere Mannschaft sind sie eine Nummer zu groß = top-level/upper echelon teams are in  a league of their own/out of our league 

bis dato ist Mannschaft in der Saison noch nicht auf Augenhöhe/konkurrenzfähig = so far team hasn’t matched what it takes to stay competitive in the current season; most teams we‘ve played against so far seem to be out of our league; so far into the season we haven’t been neck and neck/toe to toe with most other teams 

um in der Liga zu bleiben, mussten wir uns mit zwei Stürmern verstärken = in order to stay in the League we felt the necessity to upgrade our squad with the signing of two additional strikers

einige Mannschaften geraten in große finanzielle Probleme = a perfect storm is engulfing the state’s football heartland; the club absolutely needs to tighten the grip/her screws on its investments/financial operations

heutzutage bekommen Spieler astronomische Gehälter = nowadays players are getting paid crazy figures 

nach verkorkster/missratener Saison muss Mannschaft umstrukturiert werden = this was a shambolic/humiliating/disjointed season with plenty of unrealized expectations; team needs to be retooled/rebuilt; we need to start a new to-do-list if we want to make some waves next season; team works out/contemplates/flags trade/deal scenarios

Talentscouts sind äußerst beschäftigt = team scout/talent-spotter had a lot of young players on his radar this season; there is plenty of talent scrapping along/muddling along in the Developmental/Farm Leagues

Begehrlichkeiten werden geweckt; gute Spieler werden abgeworben = bright talents start popping up on scouts’ radars; new player impresses scouts/is making heads turn/ prompts aspirations by the big clubs; powerhouse has designs on/is intent on snaring the league top scorer;  heavyweights have always a strong appetite for poaching the best emerging players in the league

ein berühmter Fußballer wird der Schleichwerbung bezichtigt = famous football player was accused of engaging in anticompetitive/ deceptive advertising behavior 

Vereine verlieren zunehmend die Bindung zu den Fans  = clubs are increasingly losing touch with the fans

Vereine sollen Fans verstärkt einbinden = clubs should reach out to/interact with/cater to their fans

Schulterschluss zwischen Spielerverband und Klubmanagement, oder doch nicht? = players union and club management fight off impression of not being on the same page, or are they?

auch Stadien/Hallen müssen gelegentlich renoviert/auf Vordermann/Trab/Touren gebracht werden = even football venues/arenas need to undergo an upgrade/brought up to speed every now and then  

in den Stadien sorgen Ordner dafür, das sich keine Ausschreitungen auf den Tribünen ereignen = in the arenas stewards/security staff make sure that no disruptions occur/take place in the bleachers/stands

wegen Ausbruch der Epidemie wird Saison ausgesetzt  = season has been put on hold/halted/shut down/suspended/paused amid the epidemic outbreak

wegen Streik herrscht weiter tote Hose in den Hallen = labor stalemate/strike continues as arenas sit dark for the time being

der Streik könnte der Liga einen Strich durch die Rechnung machen = the League season could fade away due to lockout/strike
