das Stühlerücken in der Topetage setzt sich fort = the revolving door keeps swinging; the turnstile keeps turning; the upheaval at the executive suite continues; company is spinning the revolving door; the new boss looks to shuffle/reshuffle the management deck; turnover of board members is high on the back of too many poor-performing “dud” directors; the boardroom power play/struggle to get the top job continues 

eine Vorstandsvorlage erstellen = a note/proposal was sent to the board of executives

man begrüßt ein neues Gesicht im Vorstand = there is a new face on the management team; my former boss was tapped/selected as a CFO/for a high management position within the corporation

viele Kandidaten streben nach der/buhlen um die Position des Finanzdirektors = many candidates/applicants are making a pitch/lusting for the position of finance director; a few executives are jockeying for this high-powered appointment

ihre Bewerbung wurde abgelehnt = despite being the top candidate for the coveted job she got cold-shouldered/was given the cold shoulder by the board of directors

er wechselt als Quereinsteiger in die Veranstaltungsbranche/in eine andere Branche; er/sie schlägt andere Wege ein = after spending 20 years in the corporate world/ financial sector/business he decided to take an off-ramp/to turn on a dime/branch out to start his own business; the former chairman of the chemical company has taken an off-ramp/turned on a dime in order to branch out into the entertainment industry; our company badly needs a few off-the-wall mavericks/shaker-uppers/industry outsiders; there is a new kid on the block on/in  our management team; the new CEO comes from outside the industry; for her career it was time to explore/pursue new avenues/to take an off-ramp/to turn on a dime; for him it is the second act in his career; (“Quereinsteiger” can be any person who takes an off-ramp/turns on a dime/branches out into a new industry which they may not be familiar with, thus breaking with their old area of activities in order to seek/pursue a new career)

Macher/Draufgänger werden gesucht = we’re looking for outstanding managers/executives, you know, movers and shakers/go-getters who can make a difference in our company; efficient managers should also possess the capability of being consensus builders/coalition forgers; company needs a manager who has the ability to make hard decisions and not care whose feelings may get bruised 

was die großen Chefs/Bosse umtreibt = top executives/big shots/heavy hitters tend to focus too much on the profit-making aspect of operations; top execs always face many challenges and are unnerved/troubled by all sorts of concerns/issues 

der Chef sagt, wo es langgeht = the boss lays down the law/calls the shots/sets the tone in this company 

die Rechnung ohne den Wirt machen =  don’t count your chickens (before they’re hatched)/don’t jump the gun without asking the big boss first; the deal was agreed by the board but vetoed by the chairman; the supreme boss has the last say/final authority (or word) on whether policies are put into action or not, always make sure to involve the boss in the decision process 

es ist ein Konkurrenzkampf mit harten Bandagen; man lässt sich nicht lumpen = some execs engage in a battle of oneupmanship at work in order to say/prove that “I’m better than you”; high-flying/ambitious/bumptious execs keep elbowing/oneupping each other for a better job; what we are witnessing now is a knock-down-drag-out fight for one of the top corporate positions/jobs; nowadays competition for good jobs is really cut-throat

rücksichtslose Führungskräfte scheren sich nicht um Anregungen/Konzepte ihrer Mitstreiter  = some ruthless high-flying executives ride roughshod over their peers’ ideas/suggestions in the effort to achieve their goals   

Führungspersonal muss gut in Form sein = execs need to stay alert and maintain their mental/physical edge; fitness-conscious executives are cycling up the corporate ladder/are putting the pedal to the metal  

viele unserer Führungskräfte sind alte Haudegen = our execs have been to the school of hard knocks; a lot of our executives are battle-tested

auch Execs (kürz für Executives) haben ihre Schwächeanfälle = executives are subject to crash-and-burn moments

dieser Job hat dem Manager viel abverlangt = this job has taken/exacted a heavy toll/price on the manager’s health/performance

er hat den Job mit Vitamin B/durch Beziehungen bekommen = he got a job with a little help from his friends/from a friend at/in court; he got the job after his friend, a powerful tycoon/powerbroker, pulled a few wires/strings for him; when looking for a top job it sure helps to touch base with your old boy/college network/with an influence peddler

den Bock zum Gärtner machen (Fehlbesetzung) = in this job he/she is a square peg in a round hole (or a round peg in a square hole); they are letting the fox guard the henhouse

seine Amtszeit war ein Ausbund an überbezahlter Inkompetenz =  his tenure was master class in/the epitome of overpaid incompetence e

Familienmitglied wird für den Posten favorisiert/bevorzugt = the appointment of the new director was heavily/unfairly weighted/ oriented toward a member of the clan

dass alle Mitarbeiter eine  Gewinnbeteiligung bekommen ist sehr lobenswert, täuscht aber leider nicht über die Tatsache hinweg, dass wie immer die Vorstandsboni wesentlich höher ausfallen = the bonus/benefit gap is all but window dressing: good for employees, but much better for execs 

er hat seine Position angetreten = the executive began the role of financial manager

manche Führungskräfte sind skrupellos = the CEO has the reputation of having an overbearing/intimidating/abrasive character; many executives behave like predators/bullies in their job

unser neuer CEO ist ein selbstbewusster Macher/ein Draufgänger, der aber teilweise ziemlich rücksichtslos sein kann und über Leichen geht =  our new CEO is a tough and confident go-getter/badass, who looks very impressive and inspires admiration, but who at times behaves like a recklessly bold bully, i.e. a person displaying a ruthless and aggressive attitude   

ein CEO ist meistens ein Alphamännchen (Alphatier): ein erfolgreicher und dominanter Mann, ein Anführer, ein Mann mit der größten Macht in einer Gruppe =   a CEO is usually an Alpha Male: a successful and dominant man, a leader, a man with the most power in a group 

Chefsache: er/sie soll es richten =  when/if push comes to shove he/she will have to fix it; this task/job is the CEO’s very personal mission; the new boss is a man on a mission; let the boss get the job done/right the ship; merger becomes CEO’s signature/pet project/CEO’s baby; the CEO decided to step up and take matters into his own hands; “as far as I am concerned this project is top of the list for me”, the CEO said; the new boss should cast himself as the savior; he is no stranger to achieving the implausible/impossible  

beim Board-Meeting wirbt der CEO um seine neue Übernahmestrategie = in the meeting of Execs the CEO is making a pitch for/pushing for/sheds light on the company’s new take-over strategy 

unser Vorstandvorsitzender übt gleichzeitig zwei/drei Positionen aus = the Chairman of the Board (of Directors) performs two/three jobs at the same time; our Chairperson also moonlights as a Chair for an insurance company

Pfründe/Boni der Direktoren sind sehr großzügig = upon entering duty many top executives receive a golden handshake/hello/welcome/ parachute; directors are entitled to the usual perks/package that come with the territory; most top positions are linked with/attached to a performance-based agreement; the exec’s base wage has been topped up with generous bonuses; some execs are always keen to make a case for a big bonus 

dem ausscheidenden CEO winkt ein dickes Abfindungspaket = the soon-to-depart CEO’s termination pay/kiss-off bonus/payout cherry includes a life pension and a company car

ein in Ungnade gefallener Topmanager wird von wichtigem Meeting außen vor gelassen = being frozen out of/shut out of/banned from/ snubbed from/left standing from the latest discussions with major suppliers was another nail in the embattled finance director’s coffin

aufgrund von Verlusten werden Bonusauszahlungen runtergefahren = company to tone down/dial down its reward system/scheme for execs; company attempts to rein in eyewatering payouts to departing executives
