es ist mir/uns aufgefallen = he earned/acquired a reputation as a good administrator; his/her performance didn’t go unnoticed/ unobserved; he/she made a splash at the party/meeting; he drew/got plenty of attention/ notice; the young starlet has finally managed to raise a blip on the producers’ radar; the media was noticeably absent from the event; the minister’s speech wasn’t particularly noteworthy; what sticks out/stands out is the way he can attract attention; the most eye-catching part of the presentation was the introduction; what jumped out to me was the way she was dressed; the most telling/telltale sign of difference in style between the two actors/characters were their mannerisms

ein neues Produkt/eine neue Firma sorgt für Furore/mischt den Markt/die Business-Szene auf = this innovation will cause ripples/has been making/generating a lot of buzz in the market; the start-up carrier is shaking up the airline industry; this new product is set to be/become an industry game-changer
es gibt immer Politiker/Leute, die auf irgendeinen Zug aufspringen = the climate change/environmental bandwagon is rolling again and a lot of people are jumping/climbing on it; many people are jumping on/riding the bandwagon of global warming some politicians are quick off the mark/out of the blocks in jumping/getting on the bandwagon; nowadays it’s pretty fashionable to make some noise/stir a fuss and jump/climb on some kind of bandwagon; the award for most shameless bandwagon-jumping goes to (fill in name of celeb/politician)
in Sachen Steuerreform treiben die Medien schon wieder eine (andere/neue) Sau durchs Dorf = there’s been a lot of media hype/buzz surrounding the government latest tax reform
diese Auslaufmodelle (d.h. Personen/Ideen) sind nicht mehr “in” = these ideas/people are as dead as a dodo (i.e. out of fashion). out
diese neue Technologie wird Grenzen verschieben = this new technology is a game-changer that will shake up the electronics industry
Prominente wollen durch schrilles Benehmen auffallen = nowadays many public figures display an unconventional/eccentric/off-base/ unhinged behavior; the author/poet usually dons outlandish/offbeat clothes
uns war sofort klar, dass er sich lächerlich gemacht hat = we all couldn’t help but notice that he made a fool of himself
Sänger lobt sich selbst = the singer loves blowing/tooting her/his one horn; he is patting himself on the back
er/sie ist ein Schaumschläger = he‘s such a show pony/phony person; she has more show/surface than substance
er braucht viel Aufmerksamkeit = he is an attention seeker; he is again sounding off to the press about his great virtues as a football player/singer
aufhorchen lassen = the young candidate’s scathing speech made people sit up and take notice; the newcomer put rivals on notice that is to be reckoned with in the election; people are sitting up and taking notice of/finally paying attention to the importance of daily exercising; Everybody take note!
