FLUGHAFENSICHERHEIT  

für den Begriff “Sicherheit” gibt es zwei Ausdrücke in der englischen Sprache = “security”  refers to people protection while “safety” deals with the guarding of installations, vehicles and objects, including aircraft proper 

“Sicherheit geht vor”, “Sicherheit hat die höchste Priorität”, lautet das Unternehmensleitbild = “we never/don’t compromise on security/ safety” or “safety/security is our number one priority”, are two of the most common buzzwords heard in connection with a company mission statement

“bei Sicherheitsangelegenheiten gehen wir keine Kompromisse ein” ("nichts brennt an"), betont der Sicherheitschef = when it comes to safety and security ”it’s walled off and nothing doing”, the chief security officer points out

Sicherheit ist nicht verhandelbar = never bargain away security, it’s simply not negotiable; our company will not tolerate a lax attitude toward safety/security

im Falle eines Bombenalarms rückt das Sicherheitspersonal an, der betroffene Bereich wird abgesperrt und gegebenenfalls das Terminal evakuiert = in case of a security scare/threat bomb squad officers are called in and police and airport security staff deploy a security cordon to seal off the affected/impacted area; if warranted a full sweep/evacuation of the concourse is conducted

trainierte Sprengstoffsuchhunde werden an Flughäfen eingesetzt = specially trained explosives sniffer/detection dogs/canines are instrumental in the search for any hazardous device   

in politisch unruhigen Zeiten muss die Sicherheitsstufe manchmal erhöht werden = in times of political unrest/disquiet security must be temporarily beefed up/tightened up

bei herrenlosem Koffer/Gegenstand erfolgt eine sofortige Absperrung = when a stray bag/object is detected, area is immediately cordoned off

es findet eine Sicherheitskontrolle für alle Fluggäste statt = all passengers must clear a security screening/check when accessing the gate/ concourse area

für Beschäftigte, die am Flughafen arbeiten, gibt es eine separate Kontrolle = there is a separate control point/security checkpoint/plaza for all staff accessing any airport sensitive/restricted/secure/sterile/restricted/off-limits/non-public/critical parts area/zone (“critical parts” is a common European designation for “restricted area”) 

für manche Gatebereiche gibt es eine dezentrale Sicherheitskontrolle  = decentralized security checkpoints consist of just one control point for one particular gate or of more  channels serving a given number of gates 

eine Sicherheitskontrolle kann mit folgenden Vorrichtungen/Geräten ausgestattet sein = security devices at checkpoint may comprise hand-luggage scanners, archway metal detectors/walk-through portals, step-on scanner (keep shoes on), walk-through sniffer, etc

Passagiere werden teilweise noch mit Handsonde kontrolliert = at the security barrier screener sometimes runs her/his gloved hands along passenger’s head and/or arms/gives a manual pat-down search using a wand; passengers are sometimes thoroughly frisked (up) or even strip-searched; invasive body searches are a no-no, they should never be conducted

neue Sicherheitstechnologien sollen das Verhalten verdächtiger Passagiere  erkennen können = new security devices/procedures will have the capability of raising potential red flags on suspicious behavior

Sicherheitskontrollen werden von Polizeibeamten/Sicherheitsfirmen durchgeführt = security checkpoints are either manned by police officers or a private contractor

der Flughafenbetreiber entscheidet, welche Firma den Zuschlag für die Passagiersicherheitskontrolle bekommt = airport secures/locks in the services of security contractor

ein umfassendes Sicherheitstraining für neue Angestellte findet immer statt  = new staff is/are always given a comprehensive security/ safety induction

für das Personal erfolgt der Zugang auf das Vorfeld über eine Sicherheitsschleuse (auch umgekehrt) = an automatic security passage/ wicket/turnstile/booth is often employed to allow staff to gain access from the terminal to the apron (also vice-versa) 

auf der Rampe ist das Tragen der Sicherheits-/Warnweste Pflicht  = when you’re out on the ramp it is compulsory/mandatory to wear your safety reflector/fluoro (fluorescent) vest/high-viz vest/tabbard

bei Flügen in die USA wird laut Vertrag das USA-Sicherheitskonzept angewendet = for US flights there is a so-called “Safe Skies” deal/ agreement, calling for foreign airlines to meet US security standards at departing airports

für Flüge mit einer US-Airline greift das Sicherheitsverfahren bereits vor dem  Check-in = for passengers travelling on a US carrier security profiling/screening is conducted prior to check-in       

bei Verstoß gegen Sicherheitsbestimmungen an Bord wird Passagier abgeladen = passengers can be removed/ejected/hauled off from a flight if they commit any type of security breach

vor Türschließung müssen sicherheitsrelevante Fragen immer ausgeräumt werden = any security concerns on board must always be cleared up before closing doors prior to departure

US-Flieger am Boden stehen immer unter Bewachung = US carriers are subject to permanent guarding while on the ground

das ganze Flughafengelände wird stets bewacht = perimeter security control almost every nook and cranny of the airport

Sicherheitskontolleure/innen werden streng durch Behörde überprüft = security staff/officials face close scrutiny from security watchdog, including probity checks

Überregulierung/zu viele Regeln  in der Luftfahrtsicherheit verläuft/verlaufen im Sande = authorities are ruining/stuffing up (AUS) aviation security regulations through over-regulation; according to some aviation experts too many rules gum up the works/end up falling/slipping through the cracks
